Bloomin' Hearts Bird on a Branch Valentine | A Work of Carte

May 2017 Host Code: 3DFNZGMR

Hello Stampers! I wanted to share this cute bird card that I made with the Bloomin’ Hearts Thinlits Dies. Isn’t it just the cutest! I have to admit, I totally CASE’d this card from one I found on Pinterest using Stampin’ Up products.

So, I bet you’d like to know how to make this card? Lovely! Glad you asked :)

Paper dimensions

  • 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ Watermelon Wonder
  • 4-1/4″ x 4-1/2″ Blushing Bride
  • 8-1/2 x 5-1/2″ Crumb Cake, scored at 4-1/4″

Steps to recreate:

  1. Position the Bloomin’ Hearts Thinlits Die in the middle of the Watermelon Wonder cardstock and run through the Big Shot. This will leave you with a positive (the cut shape) and a negative (the sheet with the big hole).
    Pro Tip:
Use the Precision Base Plate and Bigshot Die Brush to cut intricate dies perfectly every time.
  2. Use the Big Shot Die Brush to remove small pieces from the Bloomin’ Hearts Thinlits Dies cutout. Set aside.
  3. Use Blushing Bride ink and the small flower cluster from the Bloomin’ Love stamp set, stamp a background pattern on the Watermelon Wonder negative.
  4. Position the Watermelon Wonder negative sheet over the Blushing Bride sheet, leaving 1/4″ on the top and bottom edges. Place the Bloomin’ Hearts Thinlits Dies over both sheets in the hole you previously made. Mark the position of the die by using a pencil in the holes on the back of the die. When you have enough marks to successfully line up the die, remove the die and Watermelon Wonder negative sheet and reposition the die on top of the Blushing Bride sheet using the marks as your guide. Use the Big Shot to cut.
  5. Use the Big Shot Die Brush to remove small pieces from the cutout.
  6. Glue the two positive shapes together using the Fine Tip Glue Pen. The Watermelon Wonder heart should be on top. Sandwich between two heavy objects to press together (I used two wood mount stamp sets).
  7. Glue the two negative sheets together, Watermelon Wonder on top. Press between two heavy objects.
  8. Cut 5 large flowers and 5 small flowers (Bloomin’ Hearts Thinlits Dies) from a scrap sheet of Blushing Bride. Sponge Watermelon Wonder over the small flowers and glue on top of the large flowers. Add a pearl in the middle of each.
  9. Using the bird builder punch, cut 4 branches from Crumb Cake cardstock and a bird body and wing from Blushing Bride cardstock.
  10. Sponge Watermelon Wonder ink onto the bird — saturate the underside and lightly apply the ink to the rest of the body edges. Sponge the wing in the same manner. Adhere the wing to the body and add a pearl for the eye.
  11. Use the fine tip glue pen to adhere the branches together — trim any excess.
  12. Glue the negative to the card base.
  13. Glue the positive shape into the negative shape.
  14. Add the branches, flowers and bird.
  15. Use Wink of Stella to add some glitter to the bird and flowers.
  16. Stamp sentiment beneath the panel. I used a stamp from the “Endless Thanks” set.

Here’s a closeup of the bird so you can see the extra touch the Wink of Stella glitter pen adds:

  1. This is so unique I am going to try and recreate but not sure why you cut it out twice I must be missing something . Signed up to your blog looking forward to all your creations.

    1. Hi Rebecca! I cut the layer twice for a couple of reasons: I wanted the extra thickness without using Stampin’ Dimensionals, which I think were a bit too thick for this card. Also, I prefer 1/8″ borders over 1/4″ borders. But 1/8″ is really hard to cut with my trimmer. But if you have no preference, you can achieve a similar result by cutting the heart from 1 layer and cutting 1/4″ strips of Blushing Bride to adhere to the bottom of the Watermelon Wonder panel. If you do that, cut the Watermelon Wonder paper to 4-1/4″ x 4-3/4″ instead.

  2. I would love to know if you have a video on you tube regarding your Beautiful Bloomin Hearts card with the bird. Hope to see a video soon. WONDERFUL CARD. Tks
