Hello Stampers! It’s been a little while since we last met but I have some great inspiration for you today featuring one of my favorite sets from the 2016 Annual Catalog, Scenic Sayings!
This blog post is actually part of a special blog hop I’m taking part in this month as a guest hopper with the Stampin’ Friends group from Facebook along with two other talented ladies:Barbara Welch and Angela Carter. This month’s theme is No Rules, which is perfect because I’ve never been that great at following rules! Ha! Well anyway, if you’re following along the hop, you’ve arrived from Kim Smilth’s blog. Or, if you just happened to stumble upon this blog from a social media post or search engine, there is a full list of participants below!
Also, don’t forget to click the Next button at the bottom to continue on the hop with Elizabeth Jeanne’s blog.
Scenic Sayings: Hey There Friend
The card you see above (and below) was created for a swap that I participated in with my Fun N Crafty group earlier this month. Our challenge for that swap was to use any new stamp sets and any other new products from the 2016 Annual catalog. I chose to use the new Scenic Sayings stamp set because I love the large greetings that Scenic Sayings features! Fun fact, I won the Scenic Sayings set during Prize Patrol at the OnStage event last April, which is a demonstrator-only event that takes place every 6 months. Learn how you can attend the next event below!
Gosh, I’m getting off track! Ha! That’s what happens when I’ve been away for awhile. I digress.
Scenic Sayings has some gorgeous greetings that really stand out due to sheer size. I love that the greetings from Scenic Sayings are large! I think my two favorite greetings in Scenic Sayings are the “Hey There, Friend” and “Thank You So, So Much” greetings. I also really love the “Oh Happy Day” stamp but, I admit, I have yet to use it. It will have to wait, however, because I’m in the middle of relocating to Austin, Texas! Ok, ok. I’m reeling it in folks. I’ll stay on topic this time. Ok. Here we go. Let’s talk about this gorgeous card, which is actually copied from the catalog! You may have missed it because there is so much eye candy in the new catalog, but it’s on page 102, where the stamps from Scenic Sayings are featured, if you’re looking:
So, obviously, I changed up a few things. First, I used Affectionately Yours Designer Series Paper (because I hadn’t yet got my hands on the gorgeous new Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack).
I also used some of the new Dapper Denim Ruched Ribbon, which is so pretty! I’ve already gone through a complete roll of this ribbon! The doily is actually a Metallic Foil Doily, which has been turned upside down. On the back of these doilies is a semi-glossy white finish. Perfect!
The banner behind the greeting and ribbon is also from Affectionately Yours and is my favorite pattern in the whole stack. It’s a coppery foil, which honestly looks more like rose gold than copper. If I’m honest, I might have purchased the whole pack just for this sheet! But I’m glad I did because there are so many gorgeous patterns in this paper that I totally overlooked in the catalog. This banner is a 1″ x 4″ piece that I trimmed with the Banner Triple Punch. I didn’t put it in all the way — only far enough to see each edge. The last thing I did was add those rhinestones in the circles of the doily. Peek-a-boo!
As I was putting this together (before I added the greeting) I thought that the bottom of the card needed a little something. So I whipped out my Gold Wink of Stella Glitter Pen and flecked some gold dust onto this card. What do I mean by fleck? I bent the nib back with my index finger and flecked it on the card as if I were splatter painting! Ha! I’m writing this at 11pm after loading a moving truck all day, folks. Forgive me if I sound like a whack job! Supplies will be listed in full below. But first! Let me show you the same card in the Pop Of Pink suite!
I used the same, exact layout for this card. I simply changed the pattern paper. The melon mambo stripe between the solid black and the black stripe paper (seriously, this pattern is so me!) is just a strip of Pop of Pink washi tape, which was applied to whisper white cardstock and trimmed to fit the card. Instead of Dapper Denim Ruched Ribbon, I used Gold Metallic Thread.
I really like how both of these cards came out! While I think the Affectionately Yours card is my favorite, the Pop of Pink card really speaks to me as well.
Okay enough with this design! Let’s look at one of the other stamps from the Scenic Sayings stamp set! I’m speaking of the Thank You So, So Much stamp, of course!
Scenic Sayings: Thank You So, So Much
This is probably my favorite stamp in the entire Scenic Sayings set! Now, if you’re staring at the catalog, on page 102 you will see that there is a pack of paper called Serene Scenery that was created to partner with this stamp set. I LOVE THIS PAPER. But, again, if I’m honest, I glossed the heck over this paper when I was flipping through the catalog! It was only when I received my product shares that I discovered just how awesome each pattern in this pack is! On one side of the paper you will get a photographic texture (blue wood planks, grass, fishbone wood flooring, leaves, sky, water, and more) and on the other side you get a coordinating artistic geometric patterns (though they’re slightly more organic than truly geometric and feel as though they were hand drawn). It’s wonderful paper, I recommend you take a look into it!
This card is really, really simple to make. Simply stamp the greeting from Scenic Sayings onto the Serene Scenery paper then add a banner from the same greeting stamp, which is inked in a coordinating color onto white cardstock and trimmed out. A few rhinestones and you’re done. Bam! Five minute card.
Serene Scenery not your thing? You can also copy this layout using any number of background stamps (or paper) from your collection. Below is a card featuring the same layout that was made for me by Andrea Withers from the home office. I love how Andrea used the Watercolor Wash background stamp. I believe this was stamped in Pool Party (but it may have also been Soft Sky). The greeting was stamped in Bermuda Bay with a Watermelon Wonder banner popped over top. She also used pearls instead of rhinestones, which is gorgeous with the white background.
Supplies for all four of these cards are listed below!
